Dr Joe Fawke is a Consultant Neonatologist at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust. He is RCUK Vice-President and Chairs the RCUK Newborn Subcommittee which oversees the NLS, ARNI, OHNLS and NLS recertification courses. He has been an ILCOR NLS taskforce member, is on the ILCOR content expert group, and he is a member of the ERC Science and Education committee. Joe is also the East Midlands Head of School of Paediatrics and a member of the RCPCH Training and Quality Board. He has previously been a member and a chair of NICE guideline development groups. Joe is lead for clinical research for the Leicester Neonatal Service, and his clinical interests include resuscitation, simulation-based training and neonatal neurodevelopmental follow-up.

Joyce Yeung is a Consultant in Intensive Care at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and a Professor in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at University of Warwick. She chairs the Immediate Life Support Committee and led the development of e-ILS as well as e-ALS update. Joyce is also a member of the RCUK ALS Subcommittee, a Fellow of European Resuscitation Council, and is Honorary Secretary and a Scientific Advisory Committee member for International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).

Mandy Brailsford is a senior NHS Leader, Educator and Registered Nurse with extensive experience spanning clinical practice, higher education and national workforce strategy. She currently works within NHS England in a senior education role, leading multi professional education strategy, commissioning and investment across complex systems.

A long standing member of the Resuscitation Council UK Educator community, Mandy has a strong clinical academic background and currently supports RCUK as one of two Lead Educators, with a particular focus on the organisation’s educational approach. She has held senior leadership and academic roles across both NHS England and higher education institutions.

She has presented nationally and internationally on workforce design, educational strategy and clinical education, and is committed to high quality, values driven teaching and faculty development.

Consultant Paediatric Intensivist and ScotSTAR retrieval doctor; Chair of RCUK EPALS Subcommittee

Mark is a Paediatric intensivist and anaesthetist at Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and a consultant in Paediatric Critical Care Transport at ScotSTAR.

His interests include the management of critically unwell children anywhere and delivering education to allow the non-specialist to manage seriously and critically unwell patients.

Mark is now Chair of the RCUK EPALS Subcommittee having been a member for many years.

Naomi Reeves is a Clinical Lead at Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) and a registered adult nurse with over 25 years’ experience in emergency care and resuscitation practice in the Midlands. At RCUK, she led the development of the Out-of-Hospital Advanced Life Support (ALS) course, and also oversees the European Paediatric Life Support (EPALS) course and the Community and Ambulance Response (CARe) subcommittee.

Paul is a Consultant Anaesthetist and is his directorate’s clinical governance lead. He is an award-winning clinical innovator with an interest in human factors. Paul is a senior clinical research fellow with the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford. His academic interests are around situation awareness and decision making.Paul is also Deputy Lead Educator for RCUK, sits on the RCUK ALS and Education committees and is a GIC Educator.

Victoria joined Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) as a Clinical Lead in 2023. A registered adult nurse of over 20 years, her clinical experience is predominantly within cardiology and resuscitation practice. At RCUK, she leads the organisational and strategic development of the Resuscitation Practitioner Forum (RPF) and clinical leadership of RCUK's cardiac arrest survivor care. Victoria also oversees both the Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Immediate Life Support (ILS) Subcommittees and has a special interest in equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Ellie joined RCUK as a clinical lead in 2025. As a Critical Care Paramedic with over 13 years’ experience, her clinical expertise includes the resuscitation of patients across all age groups in the pre- hospital setting, where she maintains professional registration and continues to undertake frontline shifts. Ellie overseas the Newborn subcommittee, the out-of-hospital courses and supports  the European Paediatric Advanced life support (EPALS) Subcommittee.

Resuscitation Practitioner at New Cross Hospital; member of the RCUK Early Careers Forum

Emmeline Venn is a Resuscitation Practitioner at New Cross Hospital, with a background of Acute Medicine, Critical Care and a specialist nursing role in intravenous fluid management. She is a member of the Early Careers Forum and is leading on a project that seeks to promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for neurodivergent candidates on RCUK courses by bridging the gap between policy, practice and lived experience.

Dr James Cant joined RCUK as CEO in September 2019. Prior to that, he was Director of Devolved Nations at the British Heart Foundation, was Head of Scotland and Northern Ireland at British Lung Foundation and previously held civil servant roles within the Ministry of Defence and Scottish Government.

Prof Gavin Perkins MBE is President of the Resuscitation Council UK.  He is Dean of Medicine at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick and Honorary Consultant Physician at University Hospitals Birmingham.  He serves as Clinical Director to Central England Health Partners and is a Non-executive Director at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

Professor Andy Lockey is a member of RCUK's Executive Committee, President Elect of ERC and former President of RCUK. He is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust and a Visiting Professor in Emergency Medicine at the University of Huddersfield. He is also an Associate Dean for NHS England. He first became involved with Resuscitation Council UK in 1993, when he became an ALS Instructor and he was awarded an MBE in the King’s inaugural New Year’s Honours list in 2023 for services to resuscitation training.

Dr Duncan Smith is a Registered Nurse, Senior Lecturer in Advanced Clinical Practice at City St George’s, University of London, and an Honorary Nurse Consultant with the Patient Emergency Response and Resuscitation Team at University College London Hospitals. His clinical background is in critical care, cardiac care, critical care outreach, and resuscitation. His research focuses on patient safety and the recognition and response to clinical deterioration, drawing on mixed methods, implementation science and behavioural science.

Duncan is also a Generic Instructor Course Educator for  Resuscitation Council UK and the Advanced Life Support Group. In this role, he works with multidisciplinary faculty and candidates to connect educational theory with the practical realities of clinical teaching. He has a particular interest in debriefing, questioning techniques, and how instructors can involve the wider group more effectively during simulation-based learning.

In his university role, Duncan teaches broadly across advanced practice, with a particular focus on the clinical and education pillars. This includes postgraduate teaching in advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and learning and teaching in healthcare practice. He particularly enjoys supervising students and clinicians undertaking dissertations and doctoral study across MSc, MRes, PhD and professional doctorate programmes. Duncan also mentors junior and early-career academics and clinical academics, including those undertaking funded fellowships through the NIHR, supporting their development through an individualised approach to supervision, coaching and academic practice.

Tom is a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Cardiology at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. His previous experience includes working as an emergency nurse, resuscitation practitioner, lecturer in higher education and Clinical Lead at Resuscitation Council UK, where he supported the ongoing development of the Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) process, alongside the work of RCUK's Early Careers Forum and Newborn and Advanced Life Support subcommittees.

Carmel is an anaesthetic registrar in the South West and spent many years as a nurse working in PICU. She is the Chair of the Early Careers Forum and sit on the ALS subcommittee, her interests are all things resuscitation!

Adam Benson Clarke is a registered nurse with extensive expertise in resuscitation, critical care outreach advanced practice, and healthcare education. He has held clinical roles at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and University College London Hospital, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care to critically ill patients. He has also worked as an Associate Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University.

In his current role as Director of Clinical and Service Development at Resuscitation Council UK, Adam leads on clinical guideline development, quality standards, and course design, driving improvements in resuscitation education and clinical practice.

Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching and Associate Professor at University of Stirling

Fiona has national and international experience as an adult nurse in critical care and surgical nursing. Moving to higher education in 2003, she has extensive experience in developing, implementing and evaluating health related curricula. Formerly the University of Stirling lead for Skills and Simulation where she developed clinical skills provision securing clinical skills tutors, technician and bespoke clinical skills areas including a virtual reality room for interprofessional education, she is now an Associate Professor and the Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Health, Sport and Society at the University of Stirling. Fiona has been an ALS instructor for nearly 20 years, a GIC educator for 4 years and is a member of the ILS Subcommittee and RCUK Education Subcommittee.
